Some helpful information and ideas for your planning:
Do you have the real estate? Studio's require that no one is able to see your screen who did not pay an admission fee. Is you location going to be permanent or temporary?
Movie studios make money from royalties paid on gate. When you do your planning, understand that approx. 50% of your gate will be going back to the studios (this holds good for USA). Studios require a box office ticket system so that they are assured of the integrity of your ticket sales process.
What will be my startup costs? Projectors and screen are only part of the investment that you will need to get started. You will need an appropriate structure from which to project. This structure must be equipped with electrical power, ventilation and enough room to operate a movie projection system, and be secure enough to prevent theft. The following are estimates of a "normal" drive-in startup cost.
- digital projector (min. 12K ANSI) starts at US$ 15,000 - 20,000 - AIRSCREEN classic 52ft wide starts at US$ 35,000 - FM transmitter starts at US$ 1,500 - 2,000 Other costs include your projection building / platform, electrical improvements, permits and licenses, etc. Overall a minimum budget of US$ 75,000 should be planned for a single or screen drive-in.
